What do you do after it's done flowering?

A couple of pictures of my amaryllis that I bought this Christmas.

It's just, what do you do with it afterward? Do you leave it as a plant? Will it flower next year? Do you have to freeze it? What do you do with it? Help!

Just to let you know the husband went to work with Pepto on his shirt again! HeHe!!

  4. I hear Pepto pink is a very popular color for guys this year! hehe

    I found this for you:

After-Flowering. After the amaryllis has stopped flowering, it can be made to flower again. Cut the old flowers from the stem after flowering, and when the stem starts to sag, cut it back to the top of the bulb.
Leaf Growth and Development. Continue to water and fertilize as normal all summer, or for at least 5-6 months, allowing the leaves to fully develop and grow. When the leaves begin to yellow, which normally occurs in the early fall, cut the leaves back to about 2 inches from the top of the bulb and remove the bulb from the soil.
Bulb Storage. Clean the bulb and place it in a cool (40-50 deg. F), dark place such as the crisper of your refrigerator for a minimum of 6 weeks. Caution: Do not store amaryllis bulbs in a refrigerator that contains apples, this will sterilize the bulbs. Store the bulbs for a minimum of 6 weeks.
Plant Again. After 6 weeks you may remove bulbs whenever you would like to plant them. Plant bulbs 8 weeks before you would like them to bloom.

  7. If you find out the answer, please let me know. I've had one for several years, and after it bloomed once or twice, it NEVER has bloomed again. And I've had it probably 5 years. I even cut it back once, and it got long again, and never bloomed. And I think it's the same color.

  9. I don't know where you live, but here in northern CA I take my new ones from indoors each year and plant them in the garden. I have them all in the same area, part shade, part sun and they do great! They bloom in late Aug for me. Each plant blooms every other year, I have 8 of them in different colors so I never notice when one isn't blooming. They are a favorite of snails so you do have to watch for that. Good luck, I actually have a picture of one blooming in my yard on my blog, check it out, Jacque
