Foodie Friday!
Welcome to Foodie Friday hosted
by the very talented Gollum at Designs by Gollum. Please visit everyone, they each have made something wonderful to share!
I have had this cookbook for the past 20 years! I picked it up in a thrift store when I lived in Los Angeles. It was originally from the National Charity League of Los Angeles Founders Chapter.
I love this cookbook! As you can see I write in them. I usually write in most of my cookbooks! Another bad habit of mine!
Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the food yet because I am making it tomorrow when the children are at school! I have some of the booster board coming over to discuss the high school garage sale that we are having the first weekend of May.
Guess who is in charge? ME!
Anyway, I wanted to be nice and feed them since they are coming to my house for the meeting.
I will make them the best banana bread that I have ever had! I have had lots, trust me!
Here is the recipe:
1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup margarine
4-5 bananas, mashed
2 eggs, well-beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. soda
2 cups sifted flour
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup buttermilk *
3/4 cup chopped walnuts **
Preheat oven 325 degrees.
Cream margarine and sugar together. Add bananas, eggs and vanilla. Sift flour with soda and salt. Stir flour mixture and banana mixture alternately with buttermilk. Add nuts. Pour into a greased and floured loaf pan. If using large loaf pan, bake 1 -11/2 hours. If using 2 medium or 4 small loaf pans cook in less time. 35-45 minutes. Test with toothpick. Should be moist!
* If you don't have buttermilk, you can make some with 1 Tbl. of vinegar or lemon juice plus milk to equal 1 cup.
** No you don't have to add nuts. I never do!
You are the perfect hostess! Sounds delicious.

You are such a sweetie to make this for your group.
ReplyDeleteThere is not a lot of anything better than warm banana nut bread with a little butter. I can't wait to try your recipe.....
Thanks so much

ReplyDeleteI have some bananas on the counter, next to my hairbrush, lol. About the time I finish correcting my novel, the bananas should be black and squishy-perfect for this recipe. I will look forward to baking it with a huge pat of butter, and a cup of coffee. Great recipe!!
ReplyDeleteYou can't go wrong with banana bread! Good Luck on the garage sale - Remember they wouldn't have put you in charge unless they knew you would do a great job!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love banana bread, and I don't add nuts either -- my husband can't eat them. Hmm... if I added the nuts, I'd have all the bread to myself, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recipe, it looks great!
